Intensive Counseling

Intensive or Marathon Counseling is a specialized form of therapy that condenses traditional counseling into longer sessions held in close succession, allowing for faster processing of trauma and more significant breakthroughs. Typically, these sessions last 3 hours per day for 5 consecutive days, or up to 15 hours over two days. This format enables clients to deeply explore their experiences with hurt, shame, trauma, challenges, and personal growth, accelerating progress toward their goals with fewer interruptions between sessions. We’ll work together to customize a treatment plan that best suits your needs and helps you track your progress effectively.

Intensive sessions are only facilitated by Autumne Good, LPC, NCC at this time. These types of sessions are rarely fully covered by insurance providers. Contact us for payment options.

Psilocybin Therapy

Psilocybin therapy involves the use of psilocybin, a naturally occurring compound found in certain mushrooms, in a controlled and therapeutic setting to address mental health challenges. Research has shown that psilocybin can help individuals cope with conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. Under the guidance of trained therapists, patients undergo carefully monitored sessions that facilitate profound emotional breakthroughs, increased self-awareness, and a sense of connection to the world around them. This innovative therapy offers a promising alternative for those seeking healing through a holistic, mind-body approach, with many reporting lasting improvements in well-being and life satisfaction.

Psilocybin therapy will be available in mid-2025. These types of sessions are not covered by insurance and may not be appropriate for all clients. Contact us for more information and payment options.

Understanding Adolescence Presentation

This presentation informs parents, caregivers, and professionals about the teenage brain and the changes it undergoes from early through late adolescence. In addition, psychological and social factors of adolescence are presented so participants may better understand the drivers for children’s behavior. The presentation focuses on developmental stages, processes of the brain, mood, and social factors, and specific issues such as suicide and substance use. Finally, we close with a discussion of what parents can do to motivate and manage adolescent behavior. This presentation targets parents and caregivers of teenagers and includes open discussions of suicide, sex and sexuality, bullying, and substance use.

This presentation is free of charge.

Constructive Quarreling Workshop

A Couples Communication Workshop

Many marital therapists see arguing as a sign of a healthy relationship. However, these arguments can often take over a relationship, reducing quality time spent together into recurring battles that leave scars while resolving nothing. This workshop teaches couples techniques for effective disagreement, highlighting the benefits of conflict and providing clinically proven techniques to resolve disagreements and conflict while enhancing relationships and improving intimacy, trust, and communication.

Productive Conflict with Teens Workshop

Strategies for Effective Conflict Resolution between Parents and Adolescent Children

This workshop targets common parental concerns like arguing and talking back, disrespect, yelling, cursing, and aggressive behavior. Conflict management is a full-time job for parents of teenage children. Many of us know we are not communicating effectively, but do not know techniques for effective conflict resolution. Facilitators use clinically proven techniques and models to assist parents with real-life scenarios, as well as role-play and similar interventions to promote understanding and develop individualized action plans for parents.

FAQs

Questions About Therapy?

What is therapy like?

Each therapy session is tailored to the client's goals. Therapists often ask clients what they hope to achieve. Therapy can be short-term, addressing specific issues, or long-term, focusing on growth and development. For therapy to be effective, clients must be actively engaged and willing to take responsibility and embrace change.

What kind of therapist is right for me?

People seek therapy for various reasons, such as addressing ongoing psychological issues, coping with life changes (e.g., divorce or job loss), or pursuing personal growth. Finding a therapist who provides support, insight, and strategies can help navigate life's challenges. A good therapist creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can express their feelings and fears. While therapy can be difficult, the goal is to promote growth and positive change.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987, uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movement) to help process "stuck" memories. Based on the Adaptive Information Processing model, it is a non-invasive therapy that effectively resolves traumatic memories without retraumatizing clients. EMDR is clinically proven to be highly effective, with clients reporting better outcomes and less pain than other therapies. For more details, see the clinical reports on EMDR.

How can therapy help me?

Participation in therapy can be beneficial in a number of ways. The benefits obtained from therapy depend on the level of investment the clients have in the process, as well as their willingness to apply what they have learned. Through effective therapy, clients often find they:

  • Effectively deal with anger, grief, and depression.

  • Set and achieve individual goals for personal growth

  • Learn new ways to manage and dissolve stress

  • Develop skills to improve relationships

  • Improve communication and develop listening skills

  • Discover new ways to solve old problems

  • Improve self-esteem and develop self-confidence

  • Change negative behavior patterns and create new ones

How is family therapy different from individual therapy?

Family therapy focuses on the patterns of behavior and communication that impact the family dynamic. It can involve the entire family, a few members, or even individuals, depending on the issue. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and address topics like communication, boundaries, and how individual challenges affect the family as a whole. Unlike individual therapy, family therapy looks at the broader family patterns contributing to issues. Ultimately, it’s shaped by the family’s unique needs.

Does my family need therapy?

Every family faces challenges, and seeking support when needed is a sign of strength. Family therapy offers a neutral perspective, helping identify patterns and issues that family members may not recognize. It provides valuable tools for improving communication, managing triggers, and overcoming obstacles. Whether dealing with ADHD, depression, anxiety, addiction, or trauma, therapy can help families navigate difficult situations and foster healing. If your family feels stuck or overwhelmed, family therapy can help create lasting positive change.

Can’t I just take medication instead of getting therapy?

Medication can help manage symptoms of mental health disorders, but it doesn’t address the root cause. Like treating pain with medication before surgery, it may be necessary to combine medication with therapy for effective treatment. Therapy helps uncover and address the underlying issues, supporting long-term healing. While doctors prescribe medications, therapists, who see clients more often, can spot side effects or interactions early. Therapy offers a lasting solution, helping clients achieve sustainable growth and overall well-being, beyond just symptom relief.
