Presentation- Understanding Adolescence

This FREE presentation informs parents, caregivers, and professionals about the teenage brain and the changes it undergoes from early through late adolescence. In addition, psychological and social factors of adolescence are presented so participants may better understand drivers for children’s behavior. The presentation focuses on developmental stages, processes of the brain, mood and social factors, and specific issues such as suicide and substance use. Finally, we close with a discussion of what parents can do to motivate and manage adolescent behavior. This presentation targets parents and caregivers of teenagers and includes open discussions of suicide, sex and sexuality, bullying, and substance use.

Workshop- Constructive Quarreling

A Couples Communication Workshop

Many marital therapists see arguing as a sign of a healthy relationship. However, these arguments can often take over a relationship, reducing quality time spent together into recurring battles that leaves scars while resolving nothing. This workshop teaches couples techniques for effective disagreement, highlighting the benefits of conflict and providing clinically proven techniques to resolve disagreements and conflict while enhancing relationships and improving intimacy, trust, and communication.

Workshop- Productive Conflict with Teens

Strategies for Effective Conflict Resolution between Parents and Adolescent Children

This workshop targets the common parental concerns like arguing and talking back, disrespect, yelling, cursing, and aggressive behavior. Conflict management is a full-time job for parents of teenage children. Many of us know we are not communicating effectively, but do not know techniques for effective conflict resolution. Facilitators use clinically proven techniques and models to assist parents with real-life scenarios, as well as role-play and similar interventions to promote understanding and develop individualized action plans for parents.
